INVENTOR ARTHUR BELOFF "One of the top ten inventors for 1996"
You know those little rubber tips for hangers that keep clothes from falling off? Theyre called Supergrip Rubber Hangerhugs, and that idea was Beloffs first creation some 35 years ago. What about discounted designer-style clothing for women? Beloffs Ladybug and Villager lines, popular in the New England States in the 60s and 70s, were the forerunners to countless national label lines for sale in discount stores today such as Lohmanns and Clothestime. And then during the real-estate boom years in the early 80s, Beloff bought and sold garden-style residences in four-family units. This allowed small investors the opportunity to buy into the big boom. The idea made Beloff millions and started a nationwide trend. Years later, in 1996, it looked as if the cigar smoker of 50 years hit one of the most successful inventions of his career...and it came from a visit to Disney World. Cigar Savor represented the answer to every cigar-smokers dilemma. What can one do with an unfinished cigar when entering a shop, meeting or non-smokers home? Stub it out or leave it perched on a window ledge, car bumper, crook of a tree, or other precarious location...a constant challenge at a place like Disney World, where Beloffs wife, Cloie, said shed finally had enough of his cigar antics. "Youre an inventor. Come up with some place to put those things," she demanded. And, he did. Cigar Savor is, in essence, a pocket humidor which snuffs out partially-smoked cigars within 10 seconds with its patented heat-absorbing snuffer. The cigar tip is kept open with a pin in the cap which keeps the cigar moist and fresh in an airtight-sealed container. Before long, every major cigar magazine, and several publications advertised or hailed the cigar savor. Arthur Beloffs invention was publicized in several newspapers such as the "Los Angelas Times," "USA Today," "Record Journal" and several others. Well, guess what folks? It looks as if hes done it again. His latest invention is the Bagel Wizard Safety Bagel Slicer. Its a must-have accessory for your kitchen, making slicing bagels safe for people of all ages. Early in 1997, Beloffs wife Cloie almost cut her hand cutting bagels for breakfast. This was shortly after she had heard a news report on T.V. declaring that statistically most visits to the hospital emergency rooms for cuts on the hand were from cutting bagels. Again, she was the stimulant and said to her husband, "Invent a simple safety bagel slicer for all of us." What will he think of next? We can only wait and see. "I just look at things and want them to be better," says the 72-year-old entrepreneur.
